What is a Life Fulfilling Community®?
Limestone Crossing will be a University of Kentucky-affiliated Life Fulfilling Community (LFC) for adults age 62 and older. The Life Fulfilling Community is something that has evolved from the "Continuing Care Retirement Community" (CCRC) concept into a more forward-thinking, advanced approach to life—providing far more options and choices than traditional "retirement communities and CCRCs." Limestone Crossing provides an environment for lifelong learning, optimum health and fitness, creative aging and personal growth. In addition to an upscale lifestyle, the Lexington, Kentucky location coupled with an impressive range of amenities, Limestone Crossing will also offer a comprehensive program that significantly reduces the costs of long term care to its members should the services ever be needed.
The idea of a Life Fulfilling Community interests me—but I'm not sure I'm ready yet. When should I consider Limestone Crossing?
Many are attracted because they have "been ready" for this type of community for years. People who say they are "not ready yet," often still think of age inclusive communities as the stereotypical, "old school" retirement community. The truth is that, as a brand new Life Fulfilling Community, Limestone Crossing is a very different concept. Limestone Crossing provides not only the unique security and Health Assurance Guarantee, but also the maintenance-free lifestyle that enables you to do what you want to do... not what you have to do. You will find that members of LFCs fit a variety of profiles; but as a general rule, they are forward-thinking, positive adults who intentionally choose this path because it best suits the quality of life they are seeking. For some that means continuing to work; for others, it means volunteering in the community, traveling, or pursuing a lifelong passion. LFC members share a commitment to staying healthy and fit, seeking out intellectual stimulation—and living life on their own terms. The university-related Life Fulfilling Community enables that lifestyle.
I have heard Limestone Crossing referred to as a CCRC. What does that mean?
A CCRC (Continuing Care Retirement Community) is defined as a planned residential community that offers various social and recreational services, housing options and several levels of healthcare services. While the CCRC is an excellent medical model, its focus is primarily on the physical dimension of life's third stage. The Life Fulfilling Community model focuses on what we call The Six Keys to Living Well sm—a holistic personal approach that addresses all of the "Dimensions of Well-Being." Limestone Crossing will offer a full continuum of health services. That includes all private suites in assisted living and private rooms in memory support and private skilled nursing, as well as on-site rehabilitation services. Equally important, Limestone Crossing will also provide a full array of social, educational and recreational services with an emphasis on promoting members' physical, mental and spiritual well-being.
Limestone Crossing is initiated by the University of Kentucky. What exactly does that mean?
Limestone Crossing, while not owned by the university, will be fully and directly integrated with UK through a series of affiliation agreements with various colleges within the university. This means that community members will have campus privileges similar to those of university faculty—including access to libraries, athletic facilities and cultural activities. They will also have the opportunity to interact with, mentor and advise UK students, many of whom will work part-time for Limestone Crossing.
Why did UK choose to sponsor a community like Limestone Crossing?
As the President of University of Kentucky, Lee T. Todd Jr. says, "As one of the nation's top public universities, the University of Kentucky is a center of excellence in many areas - medical education, technology, science, and the arts. We have also been recognized internationally for the work we're doing at the Sanders-Brown Center on Aging on our campus. There's a logical tie-in for UK to initiate a community for older adults, with the hope that this community will become a 'gold standard' in the industry."
How does UK benefit by sponsoring Limestone Crossing?
Benefits to the university will include affiliation agreements with colleges and schools to provide internships and direct field experience for students—as well as exchange opportunities in the areas of nursing, medicine, health and human performance, and many others. UK students will be integral to the community through coursework, employment and volunteer efforts.
Where is Limestone Crossing located?
Limestone Crossing will be located on an 89-acre site off Brannon Road, just inside Jessamine County. The community will be close to the UK campus as well as convenient to shopping, dining, and the airport.
What will residences at Limestone Crossing be like?
Limestone Crossing will offer a mix of apartment residences and single-family homes in a secure, gated, resort-style community setting.
Will I be able to enhance my Limestone Crossing home with options and upgrades?
Of course. Once a floor plan has been selected, you will be able to enhance your home with options and upgrades that suit your tastes and budget.
What amenities will be offered?
Limestone Crossing will offer more extraordinary venues for dining, wellness, performing and creative arts, learning and socializing. The commons areas will include among others, a state-of-the-art Fitness Club, heated pool, library, business/communication center and venues for creative and performing arts—as well as options for formal, private, casual and take-out dining. Site amenities will include tennis courts, picnic areas, walking trails, bike paths, onsite bank, beauty salon, convenient store and more.
Will pets be allowed?
We wouldn't have it any other way. Life Fulfilling Communities are absolutely pet-friendly.
What are the plans for parking?
Each stand alone Club Home will include a two-car attached garage and each apartment resident will have parking available to them.
How much do residences at Limestone Crossing cost?
Since we are currently in the pre-design phase, with architectural drawings and floor plans still in the works, it is premature to quote prices at this time. Price ranges will be released in the near future.
What fees will members have to pay?
Communities like Limestone Crossing—which provide lifetime residences and guaranteed access to on-site healthcare—require a Lifetime Membership Fee and ongoing Monthly Fee for services and amenities. The Lifetime Membership Fee ensures that we will be able to provide our members with top-quality services and amenities. A portion of the Lifetime Membership Fee includes a pre-funded component for healthcare services—very much like a long term care insurance policy.
Is the Lifetime Membership Fee refundable?
Limestone Crossing will offer various Lifetime Membership Fee refund plans, ranging from one that is partially refundable over a specified time to one where nearly all of your fee (up to 95%) is refunded to you or your estate.
How do I know if I can afford Limestone Crossing?
An initial financial assessment will be completed to determine if Limestone Crossing is affordable for you. Often, when members take into account everything that is included in the LMF and Monthly Fees, they realize what an extraordinary value a Life Fulfilling Community truly is.
Do I have to be an alumnus of UK to become a member?
No, although the UK "family" was given the first opportunity to sign up for membership at Limestone Crossing. Based on our experience, we anticipate a diverse representation from those who have no formal affiliation with UK, but who are attracted by the unique benefits that a university-related community provides.
Is there an age requirement to join?
You are eligible to become a member if you are age 62 or above by the time of your move to Limestone Crossing, although a spouse or second occupant may be younger.
Are there any other requirements for membership?
Yes. Limestone Crossing is designed for people who are active and independent at the time they reserve their home, so a health screening is required. Financial assessments are also conducted to make sure that members have the resources to remain financially independent.
What types of health services will be offered?
The central focus of Life Fulfilling Communities like Limestone Crossing is the promotion of positive health and well-being through holistic, preventive and treatment-oriented programs. However, should you need healthcare services; we offer a full continuum—including all-private accommodations in assisted living, skilled nursing, rehabilitation and memory support. Short of acute hospital care and routine visits to your physician, everything you may need is conveniently located right in the community.
What exactly is the "Health Assurance Guarantee"?
Like a traditional Type A Contract, our guarantee ensures that community members have on-site access to a continuum of healthcare services. Limestone Crossing guarantees access to unlimited care in private accommodations in assisted living, memory support, and skilled nursing at a considerable discount to the market rate should they be needed. Limestone Crossing will be the only community in the Lexington area to offer such a value.
Will a change in my health affect my ability to move in?
No. Limestone Crossing offers Healthcare Assurance Now—which means that once you have passed the health and financial Assessments, you will benefit from the Limestone Crossing Health Assurance Guarantee... even if your health status should change prior to opening.
What if I outlive my assets?
As a not-for-profit community, Limestone Crossing is committed—through fund raising and other means—to the corporate value that members will never have to leave the community if their financial position becomes insufficient through no fault of their own.
Limestone Crossing is to be a not-for-profit corporation? Why is that important?
Yes, Limestone Crossing is a not-for-profit corporation with a volunteer Board of Directors who are responsible for ensuring the success of the community and its mission. As a not-for-profit community, Limestone Crossing will be able to access tax-exempt financing, which ultimately lowers the cost of the community to its members. Finally, as a not-for-profit corporation, Limestone Crossing is operated exclusively for the benefit and use of the members who are going to live there.
Who is developing this community?
The University of Kentucky selected a leading-edge developer, PRAXEIS LLC from Jacksonville, Florida, to develop Limestone Crossing. The creator of the Life Fulfilling Community model, PRAXEIS has decades of collective experience in the senior-living industry—including financing, developing, marketing and managing communities. PRAXEIS believes that the quality of one's life does not have to decline with age. In fact, it can improve. Not only can it improve—but for those who seek it, it can actually become a life of fulfillment, meaning and purpose. PRAXEIS offers similar communities initiated by Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida, and the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida.
Who owns the property?
The Limestone Crossing not-for-profit corporation will be the owner of all buildings and land once construction starts. The land upon which the community will be constructed is currently controlled through an Option Agreement with the owners.
When will construction on Limestone Crossing begin?
Limestone Crossing is currently accepting $1,000 Priority Deposits, which will establish an initial indication of estimated demand for this community. Construction is expected to begin in 2010 and take 18 months to complete.
What is the benefit of signing up early?
There are several advantages of getting in on the "ground floor." Plans call for a limited number of residences (270). Pre-construction prices for Limestone Crossing will be the lowest they will ever be—so the financial savings are significant if you sign up early. Second, you will get first choice of floor plans and preferred locations. In addition, as a founding member, you will have an important voice in shaping the community that will become your future home. To take advantage of these benefits, see "I'm interested!
